....the traditional form of worship. To cast off something that is so well established and grounded in scripture in favor of a type of worship that resembles the fruits of the American entertainment industry seems odd to us. We don't come to worship to be entertained; we come to meet Christ Jesus. He is very clear about where and how we meet him. We meet him in baptism. We meet him in the Lord's Supper. We meet him in the Word of God. He has promised to be in these things as well as among those who have gathered in his name. This is why our liturgy and hymns do not seek to give an ecstatic or escapist experience, but rather, a down-to-earth experience. In worship, God comes down to us in His Son Jesus Christ through the Word and the Sacraments. Visitors often comment that "It was like coming home!" What they mean is that it reminds them of a simpler time, when church was not laden with layers of special effects and multimedia displays, but simply the Word of God taught clearly to the heart. We will do everything possible to help you feel at home with us and our way of worship. |
